DOLE MIMAROPA Disburses ₱6,450 Each to 155 PDLs in Oriental Mindoro Under TUPAD Program on Labor Day

DOLE MIMAROPA region distributed ₱6,450 each to 155 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Bansud and Roxas District Jails on Labor Day.

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — In a significant move to support marginalized sectors, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) MIMAROPA region distributed ₱6,450 each to 155 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Bansud and Roxas District Jails on Labor Day.

The financial assistance was granted upon the completion of a 15-day work program that included activities such as gardening, facility maintenance, minor repairs, and waste management. This initiative is part of DOLE’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program, which aims to provide temporary livelihood opportunities to marginalized sectors, including PDLs.

DOLE MIMAROPA Assistant Regional Director Nicanor Bon emphasized the program’s role in offering economic opportunities and aiding the rehabilitation of PDLs. “Through the TUPAD program, we are not just providing financial assistance; we are investing in the rehabilitation and reintegration of our PDLs into society,” Bon stated.

BJMP MIMAROPA Information Officer Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo highlighted the significance of such initiatives in contributing to the development of PDLs and preparing them for a productive life post-incarceration. “The BJMP remains steadfast in its mission to rehabilitate and reintegrate PDLs into society. Collaborations like this with DOLE MIMAROPA are instrumental in providing our detainees with meaningful work experiences, fostering personal growth, and preparing them for a productive life upon their release,” said Anglo.

This collaborative effort underscores the government’s commitment to providing inclusive opportunities for all Filipinos, including those in detention, as part of its broader social welfare and rehabilitation programs.

The TUPAD program has been instrumental in providing temporary employment to marginalized sectors across the MIMAROPA region. In 2024 alone, over 25,000 individuals benefited from the program, which aimed to assist disadvantaged and displaced workers, including PDLs, in improving their economic situation and preparing for reintegration into society.
